I like to listen to the radio in the morning and, most mornings, I flip back and forth between “Dennis & Callahan” on WEEI (sports talk, for those who live in Celtic Nation but not Boston) and “Matty in the Morning” on Kiss 108 (our pop music station’s long-running morning drive show). And, most mornings, it’s “Dennis & Callahan” who get me thinking about the previous night’s Celtics game.
But not this morning.
Just a few minutes ago, “Matty” threw on pop queen Katy Perry’s latest empowerment anthem…
I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
‘Cause I am a champion
And you’re gonna hear me rooooooaaar
…And all I could think about was 1. LAST NIGHT’S GAME and 2. CELTIC PRIDE.
Look… my eyes are wide open. And hopefully, yours are too. All we did last night, essentially, was hit a bunch of jump shots against a mediocre (at best) Magic team, all in the friendly confines of TD Garden. I’m fully aware that the combination of such a win and Ms. Perry’s infectious ROARing shouldn’t be enough to get my adrenaline pumping. It’s a ridiculous admission.
But equally ridiculous is the notion that Jordan Crawford is playing so well that we may have the NBA’s equivalent of a “quarterback controversy” on our hands when Rajon Rondo is ready to return – and that hasn’t stopped plenty of C’s fans from sharing this thought out loud.
It’s easy to get carried away right now. And maybe that’s OK.
Like Will Ferrell in Old School, our Celtics are going streaking. And while we can all rest assured at this point that Coach Stevens and our boys in Green & White have little interest in “tanking,” the team remains deeply flawed. Going forward, it’s not unreasonable to think that we might not see another four-game win streak until November of 2014.
But for now? We’re fighting. We’re clawing. We’re competitive and we’re entertaining. And you’re going to hear us ROAR.
Analysis and dissection and conjecture aside, here’s to enjoying this while it lasts.
